Longmont's code is plain about junk in the yard. Any trash, scrap material, appliances, dismantled machinery or old furniture on a property has to be kept inside a completely enclosed structure or removed. A dead fridge parked by the side fence fits that list, and so does a couch that ended up on the patio. Liberty Junk Removal hauls from houses across town, the Eastside Historic District included.

The city's own yard pickups have limits. For the spring branch collection, limbs must be cut to 6 feet long or less, and none can be more than 6 inches in diameter. For the fall leaf collection, leaves must be bagged, and loose piles get left behind. Yard debris removal picks up what falls outside those rules, like the limb too thick for spring or the bags still sitting out after the fall pickup has passed.

Longmont's Large Item Collection is the city's own pickup for bulky items, and its terms are in the box on this page. A Liberty Junk Removal job skips the prep that pickup needs. You don't set anything out, and you don't lift anything. The couch comes off the patio and goes straight to the truck. Work runs daily from 7 AM to 6 PM out of the Johnstown base.

Paint cans and leftover cleaners have to go somewhere other than the recycling center in Longmont. The Longmont Recycling Center at 140 Martin St. doesn't accept household cleaners, solvents, pesticides, aerosol cans or paint. Liberty Junk Removal does take paint, with an extra fee on full cans, and cleaners carry an extra fee and need a question first. The rest of a Longmont load gets sorted. A solid dresser is offered to Habitat for Humanity or a thrift store, a bent metal patio chair gets recycled as scrap, and the trash that's left goes to the landfill.

How Large Item Collection works

  • The city picks up large or bulky items that do not fit in your curbside trash cart.
  • Pickups run from February through October, on your regular trash day.
  • Contact Waste Services to schedule a pickup.
  • Up to 3 items per pickup.
  • Do not put items out before the Saturday before your scheduled pickup.
  • Not taken: debris from hired construction, remodeling or landscaping work.
  • Not taken: concrete, rocks, dirt or sod.
  • Not taken: refrigerators, freezers, propane tanks or other items holding hazardous gases.
  • Not taken: large electronics, such as TVs, computers and microwaves.
  • Not taken: household appliances, such as washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves.

Questions

Questions about junk removal in Longmont.

Can an old couch or fridge stay out in a Longmont yard?
No, not under Longmont's code. Both can leave on the same trip.
How much does junk removal cost in Longmont?
The minimum charge is $125. Above it, the price is set by how much room the load takes on the truck, the same rule for a lone fridge or a full garage. Loading, hauling and disposal are inside the price. The junk removal pricing guide has more, and payment can be cash, credit or debit card, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, Google Pay or check.
How soon can Liberty Junk Removal get to a job in Longmont?
Pickup is usually the next day, or same day when the schedule allows. Send the photo first so the quote is done before the drive over from Johnstown, and you'll get a one-hour arrival window with an ETA.
What won't Liberty Junk Removal take from a Longmont home?
Gas, diesel and medical or biohazard waste stay behind. Old paint is OK on the truck. A full can costs extra. For household hazardous waste, the city points residents to the Boulder County Household Hazardous Waste facility at 1901 63rd St in Boulder.
Can an old TV go to Longmont's landfill drop days?
No. The landfill drop days the city holds in Erie don't take tires, televisions, computers or other electronics. An old TV or computer can go with electronic waste removal instead, lifted out of the den or the basement and sent out as e-waste.
