Lafayette's nuisance code spells out what counts as junk, and the list names unused furniture, mattresses, box springs, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers. The water heater that got swapped out and left by the garage door is on it. So is the chest freezer in the basement that quit. Those are heavy, awkward pieces, and Liberty Junk Removal does the lifting. The freezer comes up the stairs, and the water heater goes out through the garage.

The city's garbage, recycling and compost program lists a bulky item collected curbside every quarter, scheduled through the city's hauler, and five bulky items at a collection event every fall. For branches and leaves, read the Curbside Leaf and Branch Cleanups rules in the box on this page first. A garage holding a dead freezer, a broken treadmill and the furniture that didn't fit in the new place is a bigger job than one quarterly pickup, and it can all go on the truck together.

Under the city's litter rule, furniture and household goods from a move aren't junk when stored seven days or less. A solid dresser or a decent bed frame from the move goes to Habitat for Humanity or a thrift store first. Liberty Junk Removal answers the call or the text and books the time. You hear from them until they pull up, and again once the job is finished. They work in nearby Erie as well.

How Curbside Leaf and Branch Cleanups works

  • Cleanups run once in the spring and once in the fall each year.
  • Up to 20 paper yard waste bags and 5 bundles of shrubs and tree limbs are picked up.
  • Tie limbs and brush with twine or rope in bundles no longer than 4 feet and no wider than 18 inches across.
  • Set items out by 7 a.m.
  • Place items in the street gutter.
  • Do not place items on the sidewalk, driveway, yard or alley.
  • Leaves go in kraft paper yard bags, never plastic bags.
  • Tree stumps are not taken.
  • Accepted: leaves, grass clippings, weeds, flowers and bundled tree branches.
  • Leave items out whatever the weather.

Questions

Questions about junk removal in Lafayette.

Who does Lafayette tell residents to contact about a fridge or freezer that held freon?
The city points residents to a hard-to-recycle center in Boulder for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners that held freon. The other option is appliance removal and disposal, where the fridge gets carried out of the kitchen and loaded for you.
What sets the price of a junk load in Lafayette?
It starts at $125, and the rest comes down to how much room the load takes on the truck. A box spring and an old water heater, both on the city's list of what counts as junk, take far less space than a garage of furniture. Loading, hauling and the landfill fees come with it. More on that in the cost of junk removal.
How soon can Liberty Junk Removal get to a Lafayette house?
In Lafayette it's usually the next day, or same day when the schedule allows. Hours are 7 AM to 6 PM daily, and the visit gets a one-hour arrival window with an ETA.
Will Liberty Junk Removal take leftover paint from a Lafayette garage?
Yes. Leftover paint can go, with empty cans preferred and an extra fee on full ones. Other chemicals cost an extra fee, so ask first. Gas, diesel and medical or biohazard waste stay behind. The city's Hard-to-Recycle Event each April took latex and oil-based paint and household cleaning supplies on its 2026 list, and you have to register for it. The event is held in the Flatirons Church back parking lot.
Where can Lafayette residents drop off household hazardous waste?
Boulder County's Hazardous Materials Management Facility in Boulder takes it, as long as you bring proof of residency.
