Liberty Junk Removal does basement cleanouts in Johnstown and across Northern Colorado. A basement is where a house sends everything nobody decided on, so the pile is often years deep. What sets the job apart is the way out. Every piece has to come up a flight of stairs, often narrow and often with a turn, before any of it reaches the truck.

Nothing has to be carried up first. Liberty Junk Removal goes down for each piece, including whatever sits at the far end of the storage room. The pile is usually a sample of the whole house, with kitchen overflow, a kid's old bed frame and bins of holiday decorations, the same household items that come out of home cleanouts.

From home base in Johnstown, Liberty Junk Removal clears basements in Windsor, Firestone, Loveland, Erie and the rest of the Northern Colorado towns on the service list. Some calls are only about the basement. Others come at the end of a move, when the upstairs is packed and the downstairs is the last thing standing between the family and the closing date.

What goes on the truck

  • Boxes from the last move
  • Old couches and recliners
  • Spare fridges and chest freezers
  • Guest bed mattresses
  • Old TVs and computers
  • Treadmills and weight benches
  • Broken shelving
  • Basement pianos

These are the usual pieces on this kind of job, not the whole list.

From the full list of what goes on the truck: home cleanouts.

What gets hauled out in a basement cleanout?

It's often boxes from the last move, the couch that got replaced upstairs, a chest freezer, the guest bed mattress, a TV that quit years ago and a treadmill used for drying laundry. Half of it sits on shelving that's coming apart, and the shelving goes too. The freezer comes up the same way it would on a refrigerator and freezer removal job.

For a family, the basement is often one part of an estate cleanout. For a property manager, it's the basement unit or shared storage room a tenant left full, the same kind of work as rental property cleanouts.

Can old paint and chemicals go out with a basement cleanout?

Paint can go. Empty cans are preferred, and full cans cost an extra fee. Gasoline, diesel and medical or biohazard waste can't be loaded. In a basement, the cans of wall paint and jugs of cleaner usually share a shelf with things that are going. Cleaner carries an extra fee, so ask before the day. Move any fuel off to one side before the photo, so the quote covers only what's leaving.

Check the shelf under the laundry sink and the corner by the furnace, where stain, bug spray and drain cleaner tend to end up. Those are chemicals, so ask about them first. If a label has worn off and you can't tell what's in a bottle, set it aside and ask in your text, so pickup day isn't spent deciding about a mystery jug.

Where does everything from a basement cleanout go?

Usable pieces go to donation first. A lot of basement furniture went down there when something newer came in upstairs, so a dresser under a sheet or a bookshelf with years left in it heads to Habitat for Humanity or one of the thrift stores. Scrap metal, like old metal shelving or the frame of a weight bench, gets recycled.

A TV or an old desktop computer goes out as e-waste. What's left is real trash, like soggy cardboard and a couch that soaked up the basement smell, and it heads to the landfill. Anything meant for a relative should be set aside or get a note taped on it before the truck comes.

Who carries the heavy stuff up the basement stairs?

Liberty Junk Removal does, one piece at a time, from the basement floor out to the truck. You don't lift anything.

If there's a walkout door, say so when you first get in touch, since it can give a sleeper sofa or a freezer an easier way out than the stairs. For a rental, the landlord or property manager books the job the same way a homeowner does, and a bigger property company can be invoiced.

How much does a basement cleanout cost?

At least $125. Past that, it comes down to truck space. A few boxes and a recliner take far less room on the truck than a basement packed wall to wall, and the price follows. Carrying it all up the stairs, hauling it off and the dump fees are part of that figure, never extra lines on the bill.

Payment can be cash, a check, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, Google Pay or a credit or debit card.

What should the photo show for a basement cleanout quote?

Get as much of the basement as you can, from more than one spot. Start with a wide shot from the bottom of the stairs, then add what one picture misses, like the area behind the furnace and the space under the steps. Text a photo to (970) 634-6969, or several, and say what's staying. Shoot inside the storage room too, since a closed door is easy to forget.

Basements are dark, and a dim shot makes a pile look smaller than it is, so turn on every light or use the flash. Then take one more photo looking up the stairs from the bottom, so the width and any turn at the top are in the picture before the big pieces have to climb them.

How the price works

Text a photo of what needs to go to (970) 634-6969. Liberty Junk Removal looks at how much room it takes on the truck and texts back a quote for the whole job. The quote holds unless the job turns out bigger than the photo showed. No hourly rate. Jobs start at $125. Read the junk removal cost guide.
