Liberty Junk Removal does piano removal across Johnstown and the nearby Northern Colorado towns. Often it's an old upright nobody has played in years, standing against a living room wall or down in the basement. A piano outweighs almost anything else in a junk load, and its height and depth make every doorway tight. Homeowners call when they want that wall back, and property managers call when a tenant moves out and leaves one behind.

Plenty of people figure they'll have to help lift it, or that the piano has to be waiting at the curb before the truck comes. Neither is the case. It stays against its wall until the job starts, and the carrying is all on Liberty Junk Removal. The bench and the box of sheet music from the hall closet can ride along, and so can any appliances, mattresses and other heavy items elsewhere in the house.

Sometimes the piano is one piece of a bigger job, like a parent's house being emptied in an estate cleanout. Then it goes on the truck with everything else, and the photos price it all as a single load. Piano jobs go out from Johnstown to towns across Northern Colorado, from Wellington and Fort Collins down to Longmont and Broomfield.

What goes on the truck

  • Old pianos that no longer play
  • Upright pianos
  • Digital pianos
  • Electric keyboards
  • Piano benches and stools
  • Boxes of old sheet music
  • Couch or dresser from another room

These are the usual pieces on this kind of job, not the whole list.

Will a junk removal company haul away an old piano?

Yes. Liberty Junk Removal takes old pianos out of homes and businesses. Maybe the kids quit lessons a long time ago, or the piano came with the house and the new owners never wanted it. Of everything Liberty Junk Removal has hauled, a piano is the strangest.

How much does it cost to have a piano hauled away?

A piano job has a $125 minimum. Past that, the price goes by how much room the load takes on the truck, so a piano and its bench come in under a piano with a wall of boxes stacked beside it. Loading, the haul and disposal are all inside the price, and dump fees are never a separate charge. For the photo, a shot from across the room that takes in the whole piano and the bench works best.

How does a piano get out of a basement or an upstairs room?

Liberty Junk Removal carries it up the basement steps or down from the second floor, through the front door and out to the truck. If a car usually sits in the driveway, move it before the arrival window so the truck can pull in close to the door. For a piano that isn't on the main floor, send a photo of the stairs and the doorway it has to clear, along with the piano itself. Those pictures show a tight turn at the bottom of the steps ahead of time, so nobody finds it on the day.

How soon can an old piano be picked up?

Usually the next day for an old piano, or same day when the schedule allows. If you're moving and the piano has to be out before the movers come or the keys get handed over, give that date when you book. A property manager can do the same with a rental's turnover date.

What items can't go out with the piano?

Gas, diesel and any medical or biohazard waste stay in the house when the piano leaves. Paint doesn't stop a piano job. Empty cans are preferred, and full cans cost an extra fee. A piano rarely stands in an empty room. The garage may also hold a shelf of half-used paint cans, and a gas can for the mower often sits nearby. Pull the gas can out before the job and keep it away from the piano. Leave it out of the photo as well, so nobody prices something that's staying. With the fuel set aside, the piano and bench are good to go.

Where does an old piano end up?

Anything in the load that someone can still use is offered for donation first. A metal stool or a bent music stand counts as scrap metal and gets recycled, and only what's plain trash makes the trip to the landfill. A digital piano or an electric keyboard takes another route. It counts as electronics and leaves as e-waste, just like a load booked as electronic waste removal. A stereo or an old TV from the same room goes out as e-waste with it.

How the price works

Text a photo of what needs to go to (970) 634-6969. Liberty Junk Removal looks at how much room it takes on the truck and texts back a quote for the whole job. The quote holds unless the job turns out bigger than the photo showed. No hourly rate. Jobs start at $125. Read the junk removal cost guide.
