Liberty Junk Removal does tire disposal in Johnstown and the Northern Colorado area, picking up the old tires you're done with and hauling them away. Text a photo to (970) 634-6969. Tires are a different kind of junk than a couch or a box of clutter. They're heavy for their size and they leave black marks on everything they touch. Most piles start small, a spare here and an old set there, and then sit against the garage wall for years because nobody wants them in the back seat.

Maybe you're clearing out the garage and find four tires behind the lawn mower and two more in the rafters. Or you walk a rental after move-out and there's a stack by the back fence, half hidden behind the trash cans. If you're settling a family member's house, the old snow tires tend to turn up in the shed, after the rooms are already empty and everyone thought the job was done.

Home base is Johnstown, in Weld County, and tire pickups reach well past it, to towns like Wellington, Greeley, Longmont and Broomfield. The full list of Northern Colorado towns served covers the rest. Pickups run daily from 7 AM to 6 PM, weekends included, which helps when the only time you can be at the rental or the old house is a Saturday.

What goes on the truck

  • Old car tires
  • Worn-out snow tire sets
  • Spare tires and donuts
  • Loose steel rims
  • Tires still mounted on rims
  • Pickup and SUV tires
  • Trailer tires

These are the usual pieces on this kind of job, not the whole list.

The full list of what goes on the truck, and what doesn't.

What's usually in a pile of old tires?

Usually a worn set from the last tire change, a couple of mismatched spares and a donut from a car that's long gone. Pickup and SUV tires show up too, sometimes still mounted on their rims, along with the odd trailer tire. Some are worn bald, and some look fine but have been around so long the rubber has cracked. They turn up in garage corners, under the deck, along the side of the house and on the shelf over the workbench.

Tires that sat outside are a messier version of the same job. They hold rainwater and mud, which makes them heavier and filthy to grab, and weeds sometimes grow right up through the middle.

Can tires go with the rest of a garage cleanout?

Yes, and it's often the simplest way to handle them. Tires rarely sit by themselves in a garage. They lean against a broken treadmill or a box of old car parts. A tire pile hiding behind all that is easy to forget until the floor's clear. When the garage is being emptied, the tires go on the same truck as everything else, and the quote covers the whole load.

So if a garage cleanout is already on your list, mention the tires when you text. The same goes for a rental after a tenant leaves. If you're clearing out a unit you manage, fold the tires stacked behind it into the rental property cleanout.

Do I have to roll the tires out to the curb first?

No. The tires can stay right where they've been sitting, in a stack in the basement or in the back corner of the yard, and you don't have to help load. Liberty Junk Removal carries them out, up the stairs or through the side gate, and stacks them on the truck.

If you manage rentals, you're kept posted from booking until arrival. You get an ETA on the day, and the truck shows up inside a one-hour window. Once the tires are gone, you get word.

Does anything in a pile of old tires get donated or recycled?

Some of it can. A stack of tires usually has company, an old toolbox or a set of car ramps, so the load gets sorted. Whatever in the pile still has use left in it goes to donation first, at Habitat for Humanity and thrift stores.

Steel rims that come with the tires get recycled as scrap metal. So does a rusted floor jack, or any other metal in the corner that's past using. Real trash, like the rotted tarp that covered the stack, goes to the landfill. As for the tires themselves, disposal is part of the quote, so you don't have to track down a place that will take them.

How much does it cost to get rid of old tires?

It's priced per tire, with the $125 job minimum, and the number comes with your quote. Loading, hauling and disposal are inside that price, and dump fees never show up as a separate charge.

The owner's rule is that the quote holds unless the job turns out bigger than the photo showed. So get the whole stack in the shot, including the pair hiding behind the water heater and any loose rims. Cash and checks work, and so do debit and credit cards, Zelle, Venmo, Google Pay and Apple Pay. The junk removal pricing guide goes further into how loads get priced.

What gets left behind on a tire pickup?

Gas and diesel get left behind, and so does any medical or biohazard waste. The tires aren't on that list, so it's only what's around them that needs a look. In a garage full of tires, that usually means the half-used paint cans, which can go, and the jugs of automotive chemicals on the shelf above them, which need a question first. Pull any gas can aside before pickup if you can, so the tires and everything else that's going can be loaded without picking through the shelf.

Check inside the tires, too. Stacks that sat in a garage for years tend to collect things in the middle, and a fuel can tucked into one stays behind.

Questions

Questions about tire disposal.

Can I get rid of just one or two old tires?
Yes. It's priced per tire, and the $125 job minimum applies.
How soon can old tires be picked up?
Usually the next day. Same day when the schedule allows, so mention it in your text if the tires need to be gone before a showing or an inspection.
Can a business pay by invoice for tire removal?
Yes, for bigger companies. They invoice those, so a larger business clearing old tires off its lot can pay that way.
Can tires sitting out in the weeds be picked up?
Yes. Tires behind the shed or along the fence get pulled out of the weeds and loaded, mud and standing water included.
Can tires be picked up from a storage unit?
Yes. Tires in a rented storage unit get loaded straight from the unit. Text a photo to (970) 634-6969.
