Liberty Junk Removal does storage unit cleanouts in Johnstown and all over Northern Colorado, emptying a rented unit so the monthly bill can stop. People call when they're closing out a unit they've paid on for years, and facility managers call about one a renter walked away from. What makes the job its own thing is the packing. A unit gets loaded floor to ceiling, and the heaviest pieces usually end up at the back, behind boxes nobody has opened in a long time.

Inside, it's often a household that got packed for a move and never unpacked, like a couch and a dresser, a mattress still in its plastic and bins of holiday decorations. Sometimes it's what was left after a parent's house went through an estate cleanout, kept because nobody could decide what to do with it.

What goes on the truck

  • Sealed moving boxes and bins
  • Couches, chairs and recliners
  • Dressers, tables and bed frames
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Old fridges and other appliances
  • TVs and electronics
  • Shelving units and storage racks
  • Bikes, grills and exercise gear

These are the usual pieces on this kind of job, not the whole list.

From the full list of what goes on the truck: home cleanouts.

What comes out of a storage unit cleanout?

Pretty much everything that went into storage comes back out. It all rides away on a pickup with a 6x12 open trailer or a 7x14 dump trailer, with the Liberty Junk Removal logo on the truck doors.

Most of the work is carrying, and a packed unit takes more trips to the trailer than it looks like from the door.

Do you have to help load the truck at a storage unit?

No. They carry everything out of the unit themselves, back corner included. A drive-up unit and one on a second floor at the end of an indoor hallway are handled the same way. Nobody needs to pull boxes out into the aisle ahead of time or take one end of the dresser.

Access is the part to sort out ahead of time. Gate codes and locks are the renter's to arrange with the facility. The booking comes with a one-hour arrival window and an ETA, and Liberty Junk Removal stays in touch until they pull in. Once the unit is bare, they tell you, and they check that everything is squared away on both ends. When a manager is clearing a unit a tenant abandoned, the manager gets those same updates.

How much does a storage unit cleanout cost?

Storage jobs start at the $125 minimum. Above that, the price depends on how much room the load takes on the truck, and the quote comes from a photo or an in-person look. Text a photo to (970) 634-6969 with the door rolled all the way up, shot from the doorway, then add a second from an angle, since a unit that looks like a wall of boxes can run much deeper than it seems.

That price covers loading, hauling and disposal, and dump fees are never billed on top. The guide to how junk removal pricing works around Johnstown has the rest.

What can't go on the truck from a storage unit?

Gasoline, diesel and medical or biohazard waste stay with you. Paint can ride along too. Empty cans are preferred, and a full can adds a fee. Storage is where a forgotten gas can tends to land, often packed in a box with other things. Pull it out before the job, or point it out when the door goes up, so it stays out of the load. Jugs of garage chemicals need a question first and carry an extra fee.

Medical waste turns up in units after a family boxes up the home of someone who was sick. Used needles and soiled supplies stay off the truck. Past that short list, the rest of the unit can go, from the recliner to the box of tangled cords.

Where does everything from a storage unit end up?

Donation gets the first look, and that order matters here, because a lot of what's in a unit was kept on purpose by someone who thought it was worth something. Furniture and household goods with life left in them go to Habitat for Humanity and thrift stores. A dining set that sat under a moving blanket for years can still serve another family.

Scrap metal, like bed rails and an old filing cabinet, gets recycled. TVs and other electronics go out as e-waste. What's plainly trash, like crushed boxes and cushions gone musty from years in a closed unit, ends up at the landfill.

Do you clear storage units outside Johnstown?

Yes. Johnstown, in Weld County, is home base for Liberty Junk Removal, and they take storage jobs across Northern Colorado. A unit in Greeley, Loveland, Longmont or Erie books the same way as one down the road, and each town they cover has a page of its own.

A unit isn't always in the same town as the house it came from. A family that moved from Fort Collins to Berthoud may still have one by the old place, or someone in Frederick may be closing out a parent's unit in Severance. The schedule runs 7 AM to 6 PM every day, weekends included, which helps when the renter can only get there on a Saturday.

How the price works

Text a photo of what needs to go to (970) 634-6969. Liberty Junk Removal looks at how much room it takes on the truck and texts back a quote for the whole job. The quote holds unless the job turns out bigger than the photo showed. No hourly rate. Jobs start at $125. Read the junk removal cost guide.

Questions

Questions about storage unit cleanout.

What's the minimum price for a storage unit cleanout?
$125. A unit packed to the ceiling costs more than one with a few boxes in it, because the figure follows truck space.
Does everything have to be pulled to the door first?
No. Leave the stack exactly as it is. Getting each piece out of the unit and onto the trailer is Liberty Junk Removal's side of the job.
Can you haul boxes nobody has gone through?
Yes. Sealed boxes go on the truck like everything else in the unit. If you know a box holds gas or diesel, or medical or biohazard waste, pull it before the day. Paint is fine.
How soon can a storage unit be emptied?
Usually the next day, or same day when the schedule allows. The ETA gives you time to let the facility know Liberty Junk Removal is coming.
Can a company pay by invoice for a unit cleanout?
Yes. A bigger company closing out a unit it rented can be invoiced. Someone clearing a personal unit pays by cash, check, credit or debit card, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
What if the unit holds more than the photo showed?
Then the quote can change, since it only covers what the photo showed.
