Liberty Junk Removal handles kitchen demolition in Johnstown and the Northern Colorado towns around it. The upper and base cabinets, the countertops, the sink and the tile backsplash all come off the wall and leave on the truck.

It fits the homeowner who has new cabinets on order and doesn't want to spend a weekend prying the old ones off the studs. It fits a landlord or a property manager redoing a rental kitchen between tenants, too, where the next step can't start until the old kitchen is out. Both kinds of job leave a clumsy load, because empty cabinet boxes won't nest inside each other and a long slab of countertop is heavy to carry down a hallway.

Some kitchens are already in pieces by the time anyone calls. If a contractor did the tear-out and left the cabinets stacked in the garage or the driveway, what's left is construction debris removal. Kitchen demolition starts a step earlier, with the cabinets still screwed to the wall, and it covers both the taking apart and the haul. It's one of several demolition contractor jobs.

What goes on the truck

  • Upper and lower cabinets
  • Countertop sections
  • The old kitchen sink
  • Backsplash tile and trim
  • Drywall scraps from the tear-out
  • Kitchen islands and pantry shelving
  • Old fridges and ranges

These are the usual pieces on this kind of job, not the whole list.

From the full list of what goes on the truck: demolition and structures.

What ends up in the pile after a kitchen demolition?

Cabinets and countertops, mostly. Upper and base cabinets go with their doors and drawers, and the counters come out in long sections. The sink and the backsplash tile are part of the pile, and so is an island or a built-in pantry when it's on the list. Bits of drywall and trim that come away with the cabinets count as demolition debris and go too. If the old fridge or range is leaving as well, appliance removal and disposal takes care of it.

Do you need to help load the old kitchen onto the truck?

No. A lot of people expect to be handed one end of a countertop, or think the cabinets should be out at the curb before the truck shows up. You don't have to do either. Each cabinet and every piece of counter is carried out of the kitchen and loaded for you.

Your text or call gets a reply first. Once the tear-out is booked, Liberty Junk Removal keeps you posted until they pull up. When the last cabinet is loaded, they tell you the room is bare, which is the news the cabinet installer has been waiting on.

Where do old kitchen cabinets go after the tear-out?

To donation first, as long as they come off whole and someone could still use them. Solid wood cabinets, a sturdy island or a sink with no cracks go to Habitat for Humanity or a thrift store, where another kitchen might get some use out of them. Those pieces skip the landfill altogether.

Scrap metal gets recycled. In a kitchen that means a steel sink, the wire racks from a pantry or the metal drawer slides that come out with the boxes. Whatever can't be donated or recycled is real trash, so the broken particleboard, cracked counters, backsplash tile and drywall scraps head to the landfill.

What sets the price of a kitchen tear-out?

The space the old kitchen fills on the truck, with a $125 minimum. The price covers the whole tear-out, and loading, hauling and disposal are already inside it, dump fees included. You can have it quoted from a photo or in person.

The photo matters. Shoot from the far corner so every run of cabinets is in the frame, along with the island and anything else leaving with the kitchen. Then turn around and take one of the wall behind you. Uppers left out of the shot are an easy way for a kitchen to end up bigger than what was quoted.

Will Liberty Junk Removal take the paint and cleaners under the sink?

Paint, yes, including the old cans on a pantry shelf, with empty cans preferred and an extra fee on full ones. The spray cleaners and bleach under the sink are chemicals, so ask about them first. They can go for an extra fee. Gas, diesel and medical or biohazard waste stay in the house even when the cabinet they sat in leaves. If a cabinet holds something else hazardous, ask about it before the tear-out, since that can go for an extra fee.

Empty the sink base before tear-out day, and mention the cleaners in your text. That way the cabinets come out empty and nothing that needs a question first ends up mixed into the pile. A laundry basket or a box in another room is plenty for holding it all until the job is done.

How soon can a kitchen in Johnstown or a nearby town come out?

Usually the next day, or same day when the schedule allows, which helps when an installer's date moves up without much warning. Liberty Junk Removal is based in Johnstown, in Weld County, and takes kitchen tear-outs in Greeley, Severance, Longmont and Broomfield, along with the rest of the Northern Colorado towns they cover.

The weekend is open too, 7 AM to 6 PM like every other day. That matters when the only gap between the old kitchen coming out and the new one going in lands on a Saturday or Sunday. Once you have a cabinet delivery date, book the tear-out against it so the room is empty before the boxes arrive.

Questions

Questions about kitchen demolition.

How much does kitchen demolition cost?
It starts at $125. Past that, the price follows how much truck space the old cabinets and counters take up.
Do the cabinets need to come down before Liberty Junk Removal gets there?
No. Taking the kitchen apart is the job, so leave the cabinets on the wall.
Can a management company get an invoice for a rental kitchen?
Yes, if it's one of the bigger companies. A smaller landlord can pay by check, Zelle, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, cash or a credit or debit card.
Does the backsplash tile go with the cabinets?
Yes. The tile comes off with the cabinets and counters, and any broken pieces go to the landfill.
